Background
Olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily M member 1 (OR1M1) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses responsible for smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. Olfactory receptor genes represent the largest gene family in the human genome. The nomenclature for olfactory receptors is organism-specific.
