Target Information
HMGB2 encodes a member of the non-histone chromosomal high mobility group protein family. These proteins are chromatin-associated and ubiquitously distributed in the nucleus of higher eukaryotic cells.
In vitro studies have shown that HMGB2 can efficiently bend DNA and form DNA circles, suggesting a role in facilitating cooperative interactions between cis-acting proteins by promoting DNA flexibility.
Additionally, HMGB2 has been implicated in the final ligation step of DNA end-joining during double-strand break repair and V(D)J recombination.
