This antibody detects endogenous levels of total NUDT1.
Target Information
Oxygen radicals damage chromosomal DNA, causing cell death and mutations. Among various DNA damages, oxidized guanine (8-oxoguanine) is significant as it can pair aberrantly with cytosine or adenine, leading to G:C to T:A transversion mutations. Mammalian cells produce substantial 8-oxoG in chromosomal DNA, most of which is excised and excreted in urine. During oxidative stress, 8-oxo-deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dGTP) forms in the nucleotide pool and may be misincorporated into DNA unless repaired. MTH converts 8-oxo-dGTP to the monophosphate form, preventing misincorporation into DNA. MTH also recognizes 8-oxo-rGTP, which could incorporate into RNA and cause missense or nonsense protein production.
