Target Information
FIBB is the beta component of fibrinogen, a blood-borne glycoprotein composed of three pairs of nonidentical polypeptide chains. Following vascular injury, fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin, the major component of blood clots. Cleavage products of fibrinogen and fibrin regulate cell adhesion and spreading, exhibit vasoconstrictor and chemotactic activities, and act as mitogens for various cell types. Mutations in the FIBB gene can lead to disorders such as afibrinogenemia, dysfibrinogenemia, hypodysfibrinogenemia, and thrombotic tendency.
