Target Information
The protein encoded by CETN3 contains four EF-hand calcium-binding domains and belongs to the centrin protein family. Centrins are evolutionarily conserved proteins similar to the CDC31 protein of S. cerevisiae, which is located at the centrosome and plays a fundamental role in centrosome duplication and separation.
Multiple forms of centrin-like proteins have been identified in human and mammalian cells, associated with centrosome fractions. CETN3 is one of the most abundant centrins associated with the centrosome, suggesting a similar function to its yeast counterpart.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
