Target Information
The PCDHGA6 gene is a member of the protocadherin gamma gene cluster on chromosome 5, one of three related clusters with immunoglobulin-like organization. This cluster includes 22 genes divided into three subfamilies (A, B, and C). Each variable region exon encodes the extracellular region with six cadherin ectodomains and a transmembrane region, while the constant region encodes a common cytoplasmic region. These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins play key roles in establishing specific cell-cell connections in the brain. Alternative splicing has been observed in gamma cluster genes.
