HIPK1는 homeodomain 전사 인자를 인산화하며, 이들 인자의 공동 억제 인자로 작용할 수 있습니다. HIPK1이 암호화하는 단백질은 Ser/Thr 계열의 단백질 키나아제 및 HIPK 하위 계열에 속합니다. 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 4개의 전사 변이체가 생성되며, 각각 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화합니다.
