GDAP1 (ganglioside-induced differentiation-associated protein 1) is a GST-like protein characterized by an extended GST domain II and a predicted transmembrane domain—features uncommon among GST family members.
GDAP1 may play roles in:
- Ganglioside-induced neurite differentiation signaling
- Protection of myelin membranes from free-radical damage
Mutations in GDAP1 are associated with various forms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, an inherited peripheral nervous system disorder characterized by reduced nerve conduction, progressive distal muscle atrophy, and absent deep tendon reflexes.
