Target Information
The HOXC11 gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes, which encode highly conserved transcription factors essential for morphogenesis in multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters—HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD—located on different chromosomes, each containing 9 to 11 tandemly arranged genes.
HOXC11 is part of the HOXC cluster on chromosome 12. The gene product binds to a promoter element of lactase-phlorizin hydrolase and may play a role in early intestinal development. An alternatively spliced variant encoding a shorter isoform has been described, though its full-length sequence remains undetermined.
