Target Information
The Golgi apparatus participates in glycosylation and transport of proteins and lipids in the secretory pathway. It consists of stacked cisternae and interacts with microtubules, which are important for Golgi reorganization after mitosis.
The GOLGA6A gene encodes a member of the golgin family localized to the Golgi. It resides within a large, low-copy repeat sequence (duplicon) on chromosome 15, which is >90% similar among copies. These duplicons are associated with genomic rearrangements such as deletions and inversions.
The encoded protein is believed to be a functional golgin, while most related copies are transcribed pseudogenes.
