Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the adenylate kinase family of enzymes localized to the mitochondrial matrix. Adenylate kinases regulate adenine and guanine nucleotide composition by catalyzing the reversible transfer of phosphate groups among nucleotides. Five isozymes have been identified in vertebrates, showing tissue-specific and developmentally regulated expression. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 17, and three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified on chromosome 1 (NM_013410, NM_203464, and NM_001005353).
