Target Information

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in diverse cellular functions such as assembly of multiprotein complexes, transport of nascent polypeptides, and regulation of protein folding.
These molecular chaperones are classified into six families: HSP90, HSP70, HSP60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP110.
The low molecular weight family includes HSP10, HSP20, HSP27, HSP32, and HSP40.
Chaperonins, such as E. coli GroEL and GroES (HSP10), facilitate ATP-dependent protein folding, enhancing the yield of properly folded proteins.
HSP10 forms a heptameric ring of identical 10 kDa subunits that binds to GroEL to form a functional heterodimer.
