Target Information

Nuclear lamins form a network of intermediate-type filaments at the nucleoplasmic side of the nuclear membrane. Two main subtypes of nuclear lamins can be distinguished: A-type and B-type lamins.
A-type lamins include lamin A, lamin C, and lamin Adel 10, arising from the same gene by alternative splicing. B-type lamins include lamin B1 and lamin B2, derived from distinct genes.
Mutations in A-type lamins are associated with several rare but dominant genetic disorders, such as Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy, dilated cardiomyopathy with conduction-system disease, and Dunnigan-type familial partial lipodystrophy.
Expression of A-type lamins correlates with cell differentiation, and their interaction with chromatin suggests a role in regulating differential gene expression.
