Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (2 alpha and 2 beta rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in class I MHC peptide processing.
PSMB7 encodes a proteasome B-type (T1B family) 20S core beta subunit. Its expression is downregulated by gamma interferon, and proteolytic processing is required for maturation. This subunit is not present in the immunoproteasome and is replaced by catalytic subunit 2i (proteasome beta 10 subunit).
