Target Information

SYNPO2, also known as myopodin, is a member of the synaptopodin family containing one PPXY motif and multiple PXXP motifs. It colocalizes with alpha-actinin and is localized at the Z-disc. Under stress conditions, it translocates to the nucleus, suggesting a signaling role in addition to its structural function. SYNPO2 interacts with calmodulin, alpha-actinin, and smooth muscle myosin, promoting actin polymerization in a calmodulin-dependent manner. This supports its role in cytoskeletal organization. Alterations in SYNPO2 expression have been associated with prostate cancer invasiveness and motility.
