Target Information
Chlamydia trachomatis is an intracellular bacterium that infects the cervix and fallopian tubes in women and the urethra in men. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) worldwide.
In a population of 15 million, up to 300,000 cases may occur annually, with many undiagnosed infections. The true prevalence among sexually active individuals is estimated at 5–10%.
Additionally, C. trachomatis is a leading cause of preventable blindness in underdeveloped regions.
