Target Information
GCNT7 is a 430 amino acid glycosyltransferase localized to the Golgi apparatus. Other family members include GCNT1, GCNT2, GCNT3, GCNT4, and GCNT6. GCNT1 is known to regulate the biosynthesis of mucin-type O-glycans, which serve as ligands in cell adhesion. GCNT1 expression in leukocytes controls synthesis of core 2 O-glycans carrying sialyl-Lewis x (sLex) oligosaccharides, enabling high-affinity binding to Selectin proteins. Downregulation of Selectin ligand expression inhibits tissue infiltration, suggesting that glycosyltransferase 14 family members may serve as potential drug targets for inflammatory and other Selectin-related disorders.
