Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins containing two EF-hand motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and are involved in regulating cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes form a cluster on chromosome 1q21 and include at least 13 members. This protein may inhibit casein kinase and act as a cytokine. Altered expression is associated with cystic fibrosis.
