Target Information
The nuclear pore complex is a massive structure that spans the nuclear envelope, forming a selective gateway that regulates the transport of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Nucleoporins are the main structural components of this complex in eukaryotic cells. The protein encoded by the NUP50 gene is an FG-repeat–containing nucleoporin that functions as a soluble cofactor in importin-alpha:beta–mediated nuclear protein import. Pseudogenes of this gene exist on chromosomes 5, 6, and 14, and two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
