Target Information
The protein encoded by the CDKN2C gene is a member of the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors. It interacts with CDK4 or CDK6 to prevent activation of CDK kinases, functioning as a cell growth regulator controlling G1 phase progression. Ectopic expression suppresses human cell growth correlated with wild-type RB1 function. Knockout mouse studies indicate roles in spermatogenesis regulation and tumorigenesis suppression. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding an identical protein have been reported.
