Target Information
Fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5) is the precursor of irisin, a secreted protein released from muscle cells during exercise. This protein may participate in the development of brown fat. Translation of the precursor initiates at a non-AUG start codon conserved as AUG in other organisms. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
