Target Information
Chromosome 11 contains approximately 135 million base pairs and 1,400 genes, representing about 4% of human genomic DNA. It is rich in gene and disease associations.
- Atm gene: Regulates cell cycle arrest and apoptosis following DNA double-strand breaks. Mutations cause ataxia-telangiectasia.
- HBB gene: Mutations cause sickle cell anemia and β-thalassemia.
- WT1 gene: Mutations associated with Wilms’ tumors, WAGR syndrome, and Denys-Drash syndrome.
- Other associated disorders include Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema, and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome.
