Target Information
IL-5 is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. It is a key regulator of eosinopoiesis, eosinophil maturation, and activation. Elevated IL-5 levels are associated with asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes.
The IL-5 receptor is a heterodimer, sharing its beta subunit with IL-3 and CSF2/GM-CSF receptors. IL-5, together with IL-4, IL-13, and CSF2, forms a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q31, regulated by long-range elements over approximately 120 kilobases.
