Target Information
The HOXc8 gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes, which encode a highly conserved group of transcription factors involved in morphogenesis across multicellular organisms. Mammals have four homeobox clusters (HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD) located on different chromosomes, each containing 9–11 genes arranged in tandem. The HOXc8 gene, located on chromosome 12, may play a role in regulating cartilage differentiation and could be associated with chondrodysplasias or other cartilage disorders.
