Target Information
Synaptotagmin 1 is a synaptic vesicle membrane glycoprotein widely expressed throughout the CNS. It functions as a Ca²⁺ sensor regulating exocytosis and neurotransmitter release. Synaptotagmin’s Ca²⁺-mediated binding of SNAP25 is essential for Ca²⁺-dependent membrane fusion. Specific residues within the C2B domain influence endocytic rate and vesicle size. Synaptotagmin 1 regulates membrane interactions during synaptic vesicle trafficking and binds acidic phospholipids requiring both an acidic head group and diacyl backbone. It interacts with receptors for activated protein kinase C in a Ca²⁺-dependent manner and with neurexins, syntaxin, and AP2 in a Ca²⁺-independent manner.
Dysfunction of Synaptotagmin 1 is associated with food-borne and infant botulism.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
