Target Information
Alkaline phosphatase (ALPL) is a homodimeric enzyme (~86 kDa) containing two zinc atoms per monomer that are essential for its catalytic activity. It is optimally active in alkaline pH environments and is widely distributed across prokaryotes and eukaryotes with conserved function but structural adaptations. ALP plays a key role in liver metabolism and skeletal development. In bacteria, it serves as a source of inorganic phosphate, and in yeast, it is used for studying membrane protein sorting.
