Goats were immunized with purified human transferrin derived from serum or plasma. The antibody was purified by affinity chromatography using antigen-coupled agarose beads. Antibody concentration was determined by extinction coefficient (A280 of 1.4 = 1.0 mg/mL IgG).

Target Information

Transferrins (Tf) are approximately 80 kDa blood plasma glycoproteins synthesized by the liver. They function as iron-binding transport proteins capable of binding two Fe³⁺ ions with an associated anion, typically bicarbonate. Transferrin mediates iron transport from absorption and heme degradation sites to storage and utilization sites. Under normal conditions, about one-third of total blood transferrin is iron-bound. Measurement of transferrin levels serves as an indicator of iron-carrying capacity and can reflect abnormalities such as anemia, iron overload, and hemochromatosis. Serum transferrin may also play a role in stimulating cell proliferation.
