Target Information
The OPRM1 gene encodes the mu opioid receptor, which is the primary site of action for opioids such as morphine, heroin, fentanyl, and methadone. It also binds endogenous opioid peptides including beta-endorphin and enkephalins. The OPRM1 receptor belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family and represents one of three major opioid receptor types: mu, kappa, and delta, each with distinct pharmacologic profiles.
