Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core has 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α and two β rings).
- The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase + 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
The PSMD5 gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator base.
