Target Information
Acyl-coenzyme A:diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT), also known as DGAT1 and ARGP1, is a microsomal enzyme involved in the synthesis of fatty acids into triglycerides. DGAT1 catalyzes the terminal and only committed step in triacylglycerol synthesis using diacylglycerol (DAG) and fatty acyl CoA as substrates. It plays a key role in cellular diacylglycerol metabolism and physiological processes such as intestinal fat absorption, lipoprotein assembly, adipose tissue formation, and lactation.
DGAT2, which has no homology to DGAT1, differs in that its activity is inhibited by MgCl₂ in vitro. DGAT2 is primarily expressed in liver and white adipose tissue, suggesting its importance in mammalian triglyceride metabolism.
