E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)은 칼슘 의존적 세포 간 접착 단백질로, cadherin superfamily에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 다섯 개의 extracellular cadherin 반복 부위, transmembrane 영역, 그리고 highly conserved cytoplasmic tail로 구성되어 있습니다.
CDH1 유전자의 돌연변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암, 난소암 등과 연관되어 있으며, E-cadherin 발현의 감소 또는 소실은 암의 침윤 및 전이 가능성과 밀접한 관련이 있습니다.
E-cadherin은 세포 성장과 조직 구조 유지에 중요한 역할을 하며, 인간의 16번 염색체에 위치한 CDH1 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다.
