Target Information
STK23 (MSSK1), also known as SRPK3, is a muscle-specific member of the SRPK family. Protein kinases transfer phosphate groups from ATP to substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. These enzymes regulate metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell movement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is divided into eight major groups based on sequence similarity of tyrosine (PTK) or serine/threonine (STK) catalytic domains.
The STE group (homologs of yeast Sterile 7, 11, 20 kinases) comprises 50 kinases related to the MAPK cascade families (Ste7/MAP2K, Ste11/MAP3K, and Ste20/MAP4K). MAP kinase cascades, including MAPK and upstream MAPKKs, are well characterized in yeast pheromone response pathways where pheromones activate MAPK signaling via Ste surface receptors.
