CLN5 유전자는 neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL)로 알려진 8개의 유전자 중 하나로, Batten 병이라고도 불립니다. NCL은 소아에게 영향을 미치는 상염색체 열성 신경퇴행성 질환으로, 변형된 단백질의 리소좀 내 분해 과정에 관여하는 단백질을 암호화하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 이러한 질환의 주요 결함은 리소좀 저장 기능 이상과 관련이 있습니다.
