SYNPO2L은 심장과 골격근의 Z-disc에서 높은 발현을 보이는 세포골격 단백질을 암호화하는 심장 특이적 유전자입니다. Actin과 결합하며 α-actinin과 상호작용합니다. Synaptopodin 계열에 속하며 Synaptopodin 2와 가장 높은 상동성을 공유합니다. 최근 연구에 따르면 SYNPO2L은 주로 근절(sarcomere)에 위치하지만 핵으로 이동할 수도 있습니다. Zebrafish에서 SYNPO2L을 knockdown하면 심장 및 골격근 발달 이상이 나타나, 근절 구성과 근육 발달에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
