Target Information

ARS2 acts as a mediator between the cap-binding complex (CBC) and the primary microRNA (miRNA) processing machinery during cell proliferation. It contributes to the stability and delivery of capped primary miRNA transcripts to the processing complex containing DGCR8 and DROSHA, playing a role in RNA-mediated gene silencing by miRNAs.
ARS2 binds capped RNAs (m7GpppG-capped RNA), likely through interaction with the NCBP1/CBP80 component of the CBC complex. It is involved in cell cycle progression at the S phase and modulates arsenic sensitivity rather than directly conferring arsenite resistance. Independently of miRNA activity, ARS2 promotes neural stem cell self-renewal by binding to the SOX2 promoter and regulating its transcription.
