MRAP2는 멜라노코르틴 수용체 4(MC4R)의 조절 인자로, 에너지 항상성과 체중 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다. MRAP2는 MC4R의 리간드 감수성과 cAMP 생성 능력을 증가시켜 에너지 대사 조절에 기여합니다. 또한 MC2R의 음성 조절자로 작용하여 MRAP과 경쟁적으로 결합하고 ACTH의 결합을 방해할 수 있습니다. MRAP2는 MC1R, MC3R, MC5R 등 다른 멜라노코르틴 수용체의 활성도 조절할 가능성이 있으나, 이에 대한 추가적인 in vivo 증거가 필요합니다.
