Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside and an analogue of thymidine. It is widely used for detecting proliferating cells in living tissues. BrdU is incorporated into newly synthesized DNA during the S phase of the cell cycle, substituting thymidine during replication. Antibodies specific for BrdU enable detection of incorporated BrdU, identifying cells actively replicating DNA. Binding of the antibody requires DNA denaturation, typically by acid or heat exposure.
