Target Information

CD10 (Common Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia Antigen, CALLA) is a cell surface enzyme with neutral metalloendopeptidase activity that inactivates various biologically active peptides. CD10 is expressed on lymphoblastic, Burkitt’s, and follicular germinal center lymphoma cells, immature B cells in adult bone marrow, and cells from patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML). It is also found on breast myoepithelial cells, bile canaliculi, fibroblasts, and highly expressed on kidney and gut epithelial brush borders.

CD10 is a neutral endopeptidase that cleaves peptides at the amino side of hydrophobic residues and inactivates peptide hormones such as glucagon, enkephalins, substance P, neurotensin, oxytocin, and bradykinin. It is a 100 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by a single-copy gene of over 45 kb. The 5′ untranslated region of the CD10 gene is alternatively spliced, producing four distinct mRNA transcripts without altering the coding region. CD10 dysfunction is associated with spinocerebellar ataxia 43 and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
