Target Information
Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) is the terminal component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, catalyzing electron transfer from reduced cytochrome c to oxygen. It is a heteromeric complex with catalytic subunits encoded by mitochondrial genes and structural subunits encoded by nuclear genes. The nuclear-encoded subunit VIIb is similar to bovine COX VIIb and expressed in all tissues. Pseudogenes may exist on chromosomes 1, 2, 20, and 22.
