Target Information
Chromosome 9 consists of about 145 million bases and encodes nearly 900 genes, representing approximately 4% of the human genome. It plays roles in gender determination; deletion of the distal portion of 9p can lead to male-to-female sex reversal in XY individuals.
Chromosome 9 also contains genes associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (ENG) and familial dysautonomia (IKBKAP), and includes the largest interferon family gene cluster.
Translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22 results in BCR-ABL fusion protein production, commonly found in leukemias.
The C9orf84 gene product has been provisionally designated C9orf84 pending further characterization. Two isoforms are produced via alternative splicing.
