UPF3B는 mRNA 핵 수출 및 감시(post-splicing multiprotein complex)에 관여하는 단백질로, yeast Upf3p의 기능적 상동체 중 하나입니다. 이 단백질은 mRNA에 결합하여 핵 수출 후에도 결합 상태를 유지하며, Y14와 복합체를 형성해 엑손-엑손 접합부 상류 20 nt 부위에 특이적으로 결합합니다.
이 유전자는 X 염색체 장완에 위치하며, 두 가지 스플라이스 변이체가 존재합니다.
mRNA 감시 기작은 비정상적인 개방 읽기 틀을 가진 mRNA를 인식해 nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD)를 유도합니다.
