Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates promoter activity of ATP1A1 depending on cDNA quantity and cell type. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1. It also represses BCL6 transcription in the presence of CTBP1 and regulates neuronal differentiation and RCOR1 transcription during neurogenesis. Mutations in ZEB1 are associated with corneal dystrophies including Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
