The KT3 tag does not correspond to a specific gene but is often used in biochemical and molecular biology research as a peptide tag for protein detection and purification. It is related to the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, which is a critical regulatory network in eukaryotic cells involved in cell survival, growth, and metabolism. The PI3K (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase) enzyme generates phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate (PI(3,4,5)P3), acting as a second messenger that facilitates the translocation and activation of Akt at the plasma membrane by phosphoinositide-dependent kinases. This pathway is frequently activated in various cancers, contributing to tumorigenesis and cancer progression by promoting cell growth and inhibiting apoptosis.
