Target Information
The protein encoded by the PTPN11 gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This PTP contains two tandem Src homology-2 (SH2) domains that mediate phospho-tyrosine binding and substrate interaction. It is widely expressed in most tissues and plays regulatory roles in signaling events related to mitogenic activation, metabolic control, transcription regulation, and cell migration.
Mutations in this gene are associated with Noonan syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia.
