Target Information
WW domain-containing proteins are found in all eukaryotes and play an important role in regulating cellular functions such as protein degradation, transcription, and RNA splicing.
This gene encodes a protein containing two WW domains and a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase domain (SRD).
Highest expression occurs in hormonally regulated tissues such as testis, ovary, and prostate, suggesting a role in steroid metabolism.
The protein shares over 90% identity with its mouse counterpart, an essential mediator of TNF-α-induced apoptosis, indicating a similar role in human apoptosis.
Evidence also suggests that this gene acts as a tumor growth suppressor.
Alternative splicing generates transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
