Target Information
This gene encodes the glycogen debrancher enzyme involved in glycogen degradation. It has two independent catalytic activities:
- 4-alpha-glucotransferase activity
- Amylo-1,6-glucosidase activity
Mutations in this gene are associated with glycogen storage disease, with variable enzymatic and clinical presentations possibly due to tissue-specific alternative splicing. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
