Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a membrane protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, adipocytes, and other cell types. It is involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis through recognition and uptake of ligands such as oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also serves as a receptor for thrombospondin and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in CD36 can cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency and are associated with coronary heart disease.
