Target Information
NUCB2 was initially identified as a calcium-binding protein with EF-hand motifs that interacts with Necdin, a growth suppressor primarily expressed in postmitotic neurons. NUCB2 is a secreted protein cleaved into three peptide products—Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, and Nesfatin-3. Among these, Nesfatin-1 suppresses food intake in a leptin-independent manner. Studies suggest NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 also plays roles in energy homeostasis and neuroendocrine regulation.
