Target Information
ELK1 is a component of the ternary complex that binds the serum response element (SRE) and mediates gene activity in response to serum and growth factors.
It is phosphorylated by MAP kinase pathways at a cluster of S/T motifs at its C-terminus, with phosphorylation at Ser383 being critical for transcriptional activation.
ELK1 serves as a direct target of activated MAP kinase and acts as a nuclear target for the ras-raf-MAPK signaling cascade.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for ELK1.
