Target Information
Dystrophin is a 427 kDa protein product of the DMD/BMD gene located on the X chromosome at position Xp21. Western blotting and immunohistochemistry are established methods for detecting abnormalities in dystrophin expression in muscle biopsies. Dystrophin abnormalities are observed in nearly all patients with DMD/BMD, though genetic abnormalities may be detected in up to 65% of cases.
